SUPERBE, PUISSANT ET TRÈS RARE MASQUE NYANGA **
Masque ancien, dont la simplicité des formes n'a d'égale que sa beauté et sa puissance
Un masque assez similaire est illustré dans "100 peoples of Zaïre" (voir Bibl.)
D'après Daniel P. Biebuyck, qui a vécu quatre ans parmi eux, les Nyanga, voisins des Lega, des Shi, des Hunde et des Kumu, sont une petite tribu dont il évaluait la population à 27.000 âmes en 1949.
Le peuple Nyanga vit dans le Nord Kivu, mais serait historiquement originaire de Mésopotamie.Ils auraient transité par le Lac Tchad, puis par l'Ouganda dans la région de Fort Portal, pour s'installer finalement dans la forêt de Walikale, au nord de Goma au Congo Rdc (zoom sur le peuple Nyanga, radio Okapi 2018)

According to Daniel P. Biebuyck, who lived among them for four years, the Nyanga, neighbors of the Lega, the Shi, the Hunde and the Kumu, are a small tribe whose population he estimated at 27,000 in 1949.
The Nyanga people live in North Kivu, but they would be originated historically from Mesopotamia, having passed by Lake Chad, then through Uganda in the region of Fort Portal, to finally settle in the forest of Walikale, north of Goma, in Congo DRC (zoom on the Nyanga people, radio Okapi 2018)
