EXTRÊMEMENT RARE MASQUE PLANCHE SHI



D'après Marc Leo Felix dans "Maniema", ce type de sculpture représenterait l'ancêtre primordial. Suivant le même auteur, il était utilisé par les descendants des lega ou les Shi leur aurait emprunté cette tradition ( dans "100 peoples of Zaïre") Ce type de "masque" a aussi été utilisé par les Kumu.


Particularité supplémentaire, cet exemplaire ne comporte qu'une tête alors que la plupart des pièces répertoriées en ont deux. David Hamill a présenté dans sa galerie une pièce similaire provenant de la collection Robert Dupierre, Paris

Les Shi sont un peuple bantou  établi principalement à l'extrême est de la République démocratique du Congo. Ils sont voisins des Lega

Rare SHI Plank  Mask


According to Marc Leo Felix in "Maniema", this type of sculpture would represent the primordial ancestor. According to the same author, it was used by the descendants of the lega, or the Shi would have borrowed this tradition (in "100 peoples of Zaire")

This type of "mask" was also used by Kumu
Additional feature, this one has only one head while most of the listed parts have two.
David Hamill presented in its gallery a similar one from the Robert Dupierre collection, Paris
