On ignore pratiquement tout sur l'usage de ces statues composées de plusieurs pièces, et pouvant être démontées. Joseph Cornet et  Marc Léo Félix ont émis l'hypothèse que ce serait une représentation de l'ancêtre fondateur des la tribu
Les Lengola sont un peuple forestier bantou d'Afrique centrale, installé dans le centre-est de la République démocratique du Congo (RDC), Ils sont géographiquement et culturellement proches des Metoko. Comme eux, ils pratiquent le culte du Bukota, société semi-secrète  qui organise la structure sociale et assurait la stabilité de la communauté

The Lengola are a Bantu forest people of Central Africa, settled in the center-east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). They are geographically and culturally close to the Metoko. Like them, they practice the cult of Bukota, a semi-secret society which organizes the social structure and ensures the stability of the community.
