Superbe masque heaume à l'oiseau SUKU
Il est, (à mon goût personnel, bien évidemment) esthétiquement au mois égal aux masques anthropo-zoomorphes similaires ayant été vendus précédemment par Christies (23/06/2015, 97.500 Eur) et Sotheby's (11/05/2012, 15.000 USD) ce qui en fait un chef-d'oeuvre
Bien sûr et malheureusement, il n'a pas la même provenance que les précités, il vient d'une famille louviéroise dont les ancêtres ont vécu au Congo
La photo de l'intérieur révèle sa grande ancienneté
Il est en assez mauvais état, et nous recommandons à l'acheteur de consulter un restaurateur professionnel.
Les Suku sont voisins des Yaka, et très proches culturellement

Superb SUKU helmet mask with bird
Exceptional anthropo-zoomorphic mask. Half-closed eyes show great serenity. The face is delicately sculpted, and the kaolin which whitens it gives it a mystical aura. The complex headdress is finely sculpted and decorated with a bird that captivates the eye. (The meaning of the presence of animals on these masks remains enigmatic, according to Arthur P. Bourgeois)
It is, (for my personal taste, of course) aesthetically equal to similar anthropo-zoomorphic masks previously sold by Christies (06/23/2015, 97,500 Eur) and Sotheby's (05/11/2012, 15,000 USD) which makes it a masterpiece
Of course and unfortunately, it does not have the same provenance as the aforementioned, it comes from a family from La Louviere (Belgium) whose ancestors lived in Congo
The photo of the interior reveals its great age
It is in fairly poor condition, and we recommend that the buyer consult a professional restorer.SUPERB MBUYA PENDE MASK
This mask with remarkably delicate features embodies the classic canons of the Pende style. The dynamics of the sculpture are highlighted by kaolin
The headdress is beautifully crafted
