Superbe masque d'initiation SUKU

Le visage qui émerge au dessus d'une abondante parure en fibres de raphia est délicatement sculpté, le petit nez est rectiligne, les yeux mi-clos
La bouche dévoile des dents taillées en pointe, conférant à l’ensemble une présence puissante et mystique.
Une antilope (?) est juchée sur sur le sommet de ce grand masque-heaume, utilisé lors de l'initiation des jeunes garçons, la Mukanda
(La signification de la présence d'animaux sur ces masques reste énigmatique, selon Arthur P. Bourgeois)

Il est en assez mauvais état, et nous recommandons à l'acheteur de consulter un restaurateur professionnel.
Les Suku sont voisins des Yaka, ils sont culturellement très proches

Superb SUKU initiation mask

The face that emerges above an abundant adornment of raffia fibers is delicately sculpted, the small nose is straight, the eyes half-closed
The mouth reveals pointed teeth, giving the whole a powerful and mystical presence.
An antelope (?) is perched on the top of this large helmet-mask, used during the initiation of young boys, the Mukanda
(The meaning of the presence of animals on these masks remains enigmatic, according to Arthur P. Bourgeois)
It is in fairly poor condition, and we recommend that the buyer consult a professional restorer

The Suku are neighbors of the Yaka, they are culturally very close
