Very pretty religious female statuette
LUBA SHANKADI
This delicate statuette in very classic Shankadi style presents a pretty cascading hairstyle, traditional scarifications. The position is typical, firmly planted on slightly bent legs, hands grasping the chest.
The eyes are made of shells (cowries), which is not very common among the Luba

The Luba are a large people of eastern DRC. Their seats with caryatids, their carriers of cups, staffs of chiefs, arrow holders, adzes and cult statues are very famous and among the most prized objects in African Art.
