Congo DRC

POWERFUL SALAMPASU WARRIOR MASK

Beautiful mask, very expressive and visibly old. The face is covered with copper pads
The aggressive aspect of the Salampasu masks with their large domed foreheads and exposed teeth readily encourages us to think that they could easily inspire fear and respect. "The Salampasu have often been said to be head cutters, a reputation perhaps more related to the appearance of their masks than to a reality on the ground!" (Detour of the Worlds)

The Salampasu live on the border with Angola and are neighbors of the Tshokwe
